JAMB to Reschedule Affected Candidates as 2023 Mock Exams Face Hitches, Offers Apology
JAMB organized the 2023 Mock-UTME on March 30, 2023, across 725 centers in Nigeria. As expected, some centers experienced difficulties during the exercise, leading to some candidates being unable to take the exam. The affected candidates will be given another opportunity to take the exam at no additional cost, and the board will address any issues that arose during the mock exam to improve future exams.
The introduction of the Mock-UTME by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board was aimed at providing the Board with the opportunity to assess innovations that would be used for the main examination as well as allow candidates to have hands-on experiences in the CBT environment.
For more than six years, JAMB has been conducting the mock exercise, which has provided an excellent platform for testing innovative approaches to improve the quality of assessment exercises. In preparation for the 2023 exercise, the Board had earlier announced the introduction of some new measures that had never been used before, and the mock exam was an opportunity to evaluate their effectiveness.
The Board wishes to apologize to all candidates who may have encountered any inconvenience during the exercise. The introduction of new measures is part of JAMB’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality, security, and reliability of its services. It also marks the beginning of a new phase of the Board’s transformational agenda.
The exercise also gave the Board the rare opportunity of fine-tuning this process for better results. The Board expresses its appreciation to the candidates and their parents for their understanding and pledges to ensure that the system for which their sacrifice is made is perfected.
The gains from the exercise cannot be quantified as the Board has taken note of the challenges thrown up and had, consequently, been better placed to deliver a seamless UTME exercise come April, 2023 in line with its projections. The Board will continue to appeal to candidates and the general public for their understanding as it would not relent in its efforts to devise new and better ways of enhancing the quality of large-scale assessments in Nigeria.
