JAMB clarifies the alleged barring of Muslim students from Covenant University CBT center

JAMB has responded to allegations that some Muslim students were barred from taking the mock examination at a CBT center in Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, because of their religion.

On Monday, April 3, a footage was shared on the internet showing a group of female JAMB candidates who were reportedly refused entry into the mock examination venue for wearing hijabs. They were seen standing outside the school in the video.

According to a parent named Olayode Akeem, security guards at the Covenant University CBT center prevented female JAMB candidates wearing hijabs from entering the exam venue, stating that they were following instructions from higher authorities.

However, JAMB released a statement denying that the university gave such instructions to the guards and offered apologies to the affected candidates. The statement further explained that officials from Covenant University quickly intervened when they learned of the incident to ensure that the candidates were allowed to take their exams.

JAMB further reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no form of discrimination against any individual or group will be tolerated and assured the affected candidates that they would have the opportunity to sit for the rescheduled exam. The board also stated that it would take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
