To apply for Law through the JAMB UTME, you must select the following subject combination:
- Use of English (Compulsory)
- Three (3) other Arts or Social Science subjects
(Subject choices may vary slightly depending on the institution’s specific requirements)
- Literature in English
- Government or History
- Christian Religious Studies (CRS) or Islamic Religious Studies (IRS)
O’Level Requirements for Law UTME Candidates
If you’re applying to study Law through UTME, you must have at least five (5) O’Level credit passes, which must include English Language, Literature in English, and other subjects as required by your chosen institution.
In addition, note that UNN does not require Mathematics, Fine Art, or any Local Language. However, institutions like UNIUYO, MADONNA, BIU, IMSU, and UNIBEN accept a pass in Mathematics.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates 2026
Candidates applying through Direct Entry (DE) are expected to meet the following criteria:
- Candidates must have two ‘A’ Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects.
- NCE, ND, or a First Degree with at least a Second Class Lower is also acceptable in most cases.
However, take note of the following institution-specific conditions:
- AAU does not accept NCE.
- UNIMAID requires two ‘A’ Level passes from Government, Literature in English, and Religious Studies.
- RSUST and OAU accept a First Degree with a minimum of Second Class Honours along with UTME requirements, but do not accept NCE, ND, or HND.
- ANSU does not require Literature in English for applicants with a degree.
