Gunmen Attack INEC Officials in Kogi, Six Corps Members Missing

Gunmen attacked six Hummer buses carrying officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the March 18 gubernatorial and house assembly elections in Kogi state. Among those missing are two serving corps members and four ex-corps members who worked as ad hoc staff during the elections.

According to reports, the attack happened at around 2 am on Sunday, March 19, 2023, in Obajana. The incident resulted in several officials being wounded by gunshots, including police officers and drivers.

The Kogi police command spokesperson, SP Williams Aya, who confirmed the attack in a statement, said 96 INEC staff members were rescued while the corps members are still missing. 

Aya added that the Commissioner of Police has tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, to commence a thorough investigation with a view to apprehending the miscreants and bringing them to deserved justice.
